Dealing with Thomas Müller leaves questions at FC Bayern when he was saying goodbye. There is also another at the center: sports director Max Eberl.
At least it was reserved for Thomas Müller to officially announce that after 17 years of professional and a quarter of a century as a player of FC Bayern. He and those responsible have just averted the very big debacle, although Müller’s upcoming farewell had already leaked to the public in the past few days.
Müller chose mostly conciliatory words in his emotional farewell letter spread over the social networks (you can read more about this here). The record player (743 competitive games) and Champions League winner from 2013 and 2020 as well as world champions from 2014 also distributed two verbal tips.
Müller once again made it clear that in his current role he would have liked to play for another year for his heart club and wrote: “Even if this did not meet my personal wishes, it is important that the club will follow its beliefs.” He also emphasized that “he had not liked the back and forth in public for the past few weeks and months”.
The Causa Müller actually leaves some questions. For example, whether one can deal with one of the most deserved players in club history and all that corresponds to the “Mia-San-Mia” idea, which is always preached by the upper heads of the supposed Bavarian family. Among other things, the two former captains Thomas Helmer and Lothar Matthäus had recently answered both with a clear no. You can understand them. That wasn’t Bayern-like.
Because the Müller-Aus at FC Bayern has now become an end with horror and no horror. Nevertheless, it is an unworthy – both for Müller, but especially for FC Bayern.
Max Eberl and Honorary President Uli Hoeneß should now feel addressed by Müller’s tops. Eberl finally said Müller on January 10th: “Thomas doesn’t need to negotiate. If he says he wants to keep going, then we will look into our eyes, let’s take a look at the squad and then it will continue. It will probably be the shortest conversation.” However, because the Müller association has no longer made a contract, Eberl must now put up with the accusation of having broken his word. He is now practically there as a liar.
At the premiere of the Thomas Müller documentary “one like none”, Hoeneß had already collected the supposed free ticket to extend the contract at the end of February. “I would like to have Thomas at Bayern, I would like to have it here in five years. But in the long run it cannot be the solution that he is sitting on our bench.
That is Müller’s great career “not worthy”. And specifically about the contract extension declared by Eberl to form a matter of form: “I don’t know. I already think that FC Bayern and Thomas Müller have to make a decision together, because we are not on the bazaar where everyone can do what they want.”
