FC Bayern | Tuchel explains Musiala’s waiver and Laimer’s use

In the top game against Bayer Leverkusen, FC Bayern is relying on a quite surprising line-up. Before kick-off, coach Thomas Tuchel explained his choice.

Many fans had expected Jamal Musiala to be in the starting line-up in the top game between FC Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen, but according to Thomas Tuchel, the game simply comes too early for the national player.

“We wanted to release Jamal for the international match against France, but that didn’t work out. Because there were always small problems in the back,” Tuchel reported. Sending Musiala onto the pitch against the Werkself from the start “we can’t do that. That would be irresponsible,” said Tuchel, explaining his decision.

At the same time, Thomas Müller is “top fit,” said the coach. “He also scored in the international match, so it was a logical decision,” said Tuchel, justifying the perennial favorite’s starting eleven.

Tuchel: That’s why Konrad Laimer is starting

Tuchel also made a surprising choice of personnel on the right side. Here Konrad Laimer was given preference over Noussair Mazraoui. The reason for this was Laimer’s excellent performance in the last league game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“He [Laimer] did very well against Gladbach. He was instrumental in turning the game around. That’s why he simply deserves to stay in,” said Tuchel, explaining his decision.

In the game on Friday evening, Munich and Leverkusen, the only two flawless teams in the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, will meet. Both the record champions and the Werkself won their first three league games and are already three points ahead of the rest of the league. The winner on Friday evening will definitely end the match day in first place.
