FC Bayern is apparently working on an explosive transfer. A top performer from rival Bayer Leverkusen has become the focus of the Munich team.

Is there a transfer coup on the horizon at FC Bayern? As the “Kicker” reports, a top player from runner-up Bayer Leverkusen is said to have come into focus for the record champions. Specifically, the report states: “The name is appearing more and more frequently at the Munich office Alejandro Grimaldo through the corridors. It is rumored that Bayern should explicitly monitor the Leverkusen player.”

The Spaniard has been one of the Werkself’s defining players since the summer of 2023. Grimaldo was also one of the Bayer team’s key performers in the 2024 championship and DFB Cup double win under head coach Xabi Alonso.

The 30-year-old has a contract in Leverkusen until June 30, 2027. Bayer would actually like to keep the left-footed player beyond that. However, negotiations over a possible contract extension have stalled. According to reports, Grimaldo is planning a move to a top European club – as early as next summer.

So far, La Liga in his native Spain and in particular his youth club FC Barcelona have been considered a potential destination for a move. Now Grimaldo apparently has another interesting option with FC Bayern. What makes Grimaldo particularly exciting for the top clubs is his relatively low exit clause in his contract, which, according to Spanish media reports, is only 15 to 18 million euros.

“The truth is that there are no stupid fouls, that he may not have an incredible free kick day and that the goalkeeper helps us in these situations. That’s all you can do,” said the Belgian when asked about Grimaldo’s shooting strength and added with a smile: “I just hope that there are no dangerous free kicks.”

This was also not the case because, somewhat surprisingly, Grimaldo was not used in the game at the end for tactical reasons. With a view to Bayern’s possible interest in Grimaldo, Kompany’s statements now appear in a different light in retrospect. In any case, the Spaniard must have followed the words carefully and heard them as a great expression of appreciation.
