FC Bayern sets the pain threshold for Leon Goretzka’s change

After Tuchel criticism

Thomas Tuchel has called for Leon Goretzka to improve his performance at Bayern Munich and has not made it clear that the international will still be in his squad at the end of the transfer period. According to information from the TV broadcaster “Sky”, the record champions have internally set a pain limit for a possible departure of the 28-year-old.

“I wouldn’t confirm that for any player, the transfer time is still far too early for that and far too many things are happening,” said the 49-year-old coach at the weekend when asked whether the right-footed player, who moved from FC Schalke 04 to Munich free of charge in 2018 will still be in his squad after the end of the transfer period. Goretzka’s contract runs until June 30, 2026.

“Leon had an unsatisfactory final phase of the season,” said Tuchel in the training camp at Tegernsee. There he made a clear demand right at the beginning of the preparation: more must come from the national player. “From his status, from his contract, from his age, he’s someone we expect a lot from. That he bears responsibility, that he carries the team. There’s room for improvement,” said Tuchel, who emphasized “that it’s our job to help him with that.”

During his time in Munich, Goretzka had meanwhile been able to increase his market value to a personal high of 70 million euros, but in the course of the most recent TM update he was one of the biggest losers in the record champions’ squad: the Bochum native lost 20 million euros downward. According to “Sky”, Munich is willing to talk about an offer at market value level or in the range between 40 million and 50 million euros – Goretzka could even become a record departure this summer and overtake Lucas Hernández, who was deducted from PSG, in this ranking.

FC Bayern’s Tuchel: It’s always possible for players to make “other plans”.

In midfield, Munich have a large offer, as of now, Tuchel has six players in the center. Among them newcomer Laimer, but also regular defenders Raphaël Guerreiro and Noussair Mazraoui could fill Goretzka’s position. After his loan to Manchester United, Marcel Sabitzer (29) is again a candidate for a change and Ryan Gravenberch (21) is unhappy with his playing time in his debut season. “Ryan is in the challenger role. He has to get the best out of this role and accept it that way,” said Tuchel, looking at the Dutchman and hinting that a lot can still happen in the warm-up to the season.

“There can always be a situation where players have other plans. I haven’t heard that from Leon. But it is now the beginning of the preparation,” explained Tuchel and added: “There is a lot of competition. All the players who are here want to see what the coach is planning, if they’re comfortable.”

Goretzka can leave Bavaria – PSG talent Zaïre-Emery in BVB focus

Goretzka has not yet shown any ambitions that he would like to leave the German champions. When he extended his contract in September 2021, he and midfield colleague Joshua Kimmich were described as the “heart and soul” of the team, saying he was “a source of energy on and off the pitch”. Again and again, the midfielder was slowed down by injuries.

In 2023, Goretzka only made five of his 16 league appearances over the full 90-minute distance, followed by just one after Julian Nagelsmann changed coaches to Tuchel. Bundesliga market value administrator Tobias Kröger from Transfermarkt attested the professional “a season to forget” and already predicted: “Especially in interaction with Kimmich, he misses the dominance of the triple times and will probably have to fight for his place in the starting XI in the new season. “

At the beginning of the summer, vague speculations about a possible transfer to Borussia Dortmund arose around Goretzka, and there have also been reports of interest from Manchester United or Atlético Madrid in recent weeks. It is clear that the professional, especially with a view to the EM 2024 in his own country, is trying to get an appropriate playing time in the league and Champions League and to recommend himself for national coach Hansi Flick – whether he is doing this with the “new” Bayern of the season 2023/24 under Tuchel or at another club remains to be seen. Again “table football“ reported on Monday that Goretzka currently prefers staying and also has supporters in the club.

FC Bayern: Thomas Tuchel sorts out young players Ibrahimovic and Vidovic

Meanwhile, coach Tuchel took action on two promising talents with a professional contract before the start of the training camp, reports the “sports picture“: Both Arijon Ibrahimovic (17) and Gabriel Vidovic (19) were therefore not allowed to start the trip to Tegernsee at the behest of the 49-year-old.

In particular, left wing Vidovic, who was loaned to Vitesse Arnheim last season and contributed four goals in 25 games there, does not play a role in Tuchel’s plans given the great competition in the Munich offensive, the newspaper writes.

Ibrahimovic, however, should be nominated for Thomas Müller, who left injured. As FC Bayern announced on Monday, the offensive player will complete individual sessions in Munich due to muscular problems in his left hip. There is also an individual program for national goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and for the start of preparation for central defender Matthijs de Ligt. “If everything stays the same, he will join after the training camp and also travel to Asia. Manuel Neuer will continue to receive an individual program, he will alternate between athletic training and individual goalkeeper training,” explained Tuchel.
