After injury: Bayern star returns to training

Serge Gnabry resumed running training a good five weeks after his muscle injury. The 28-year-old completed the session on Monday alongside Tarek Buchmann. The 18-year-old defender is currently recovering from a muscle injury. Meanwhile, the colleagues are completing a training camp in Portugal.

Gnabry sustained the injury in the 5-1 defeat in Frankfurt. He’s having a hard time finding his way into this season and often didn’t get a chance against his competitors Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sané. The professional was out for several weeks in September and October due to a broken forearm.

Gnabry has only played in five Bundesliga games and has not yet recorded a goal or an assist. In the previous season he contributed 14 goals and seven assists to Munich’s championship title in the Bundesliga.

Kane on second career: “I was thinking about the NFL”

Harry Kane can imagine a second career in the National Football League. In an interview with “Kicker,” the FC Bayern Munich striker said he wanted to play football “as long as my body and mind allow.” He likes the USA and spends a lot of time there. “But I’ve also thought about the NFL and that I might want to continue there,” said Kane.

Kane moved from Tottenham Hotspur to the German football record champions last summer. The NFL has been hosting main round games in Tottenham Stadium since 2019. The captain of the English national team can also watch the NFL up close in Munich: the Carolina Panthers will play in the Allianz Arena next season. The opponent has not yet been determined.

FC Bayern: No six in winter

Contrary to coach Thomas Tuchel’s original wishes, FC Bayern will most likely not sign a defensive midfielder in this transfer window. “At the moment there is not the greatest need,” said Tuchel after the home game against TSG Hoffenheim (3-0).

“We also want to guarantee playing times,” the coach explained the decision. “The players also get better because they play, are needed and have a role. It doesn’t serve anyone to simply sign players – they must also have realistic chances of playing. All of them!”

Tuchel is rethinking “Holding Six”.

In the summer, FC Bayern really wanted to sign defensive midfielder João Palhinha from FC Fulham. The deal fell through. Although the record champions still have a verbal agreement with the player, according to Sky it is currently too expensive. Does Bayern still need a Holding Six (read more about that here), which Tuchel kept talking about?

During Munich’s friendly against Basel on Saturday (1-1), Tuchel said in the mixed zone: “If you look at our line-up today, there is no shortage of central midfield.” He further explained: “It’s more like we need someone else who could help us out on the right and could perhaps be used flexibly.” In Basel, Joshua Kimmich started in the right-back position, but those responsible are looking at midfield.
