FC Bayern | Lothar Matthäus names the ideal trainer

Thomas Tuchel should look after FC Bayern until the end of the season. The Munich team and the trainer then end their collaboration. Lothar Matthäus sees a logical candidate for the successor, but can also imagine another trainer from the Bundesliga for the German record champions.

“Xabi Alonso has to be at the top of FC Bayern’s list because of his CV, his authority and his successful work in Leverkusen,” Matthäus commented on the search for a coach on Säbener Straße in his “Sky” column: “I don’t know of any coach Europe and in the world who would be a better fit for Bayern Munich than Xabi Alonso.”

The Spaniard still has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2026. Alonso is currently at the top of the Bundesliga with the Rhinelanders. The lead over the pursuer from Munich is already eight points.

Matthäus praised the fact that the coaching shooting star is currently fully focused on his work in Leverkusen. “Xabi Alonso isn’t interested in Bayern Munich yet, he’s not interested in Liverpool and Real Madrid either. He’s only interested in winning as many as three titles with Leverkusen in the next two and a half months,” the TV expert said.

Matthäus is not yet sure whether the 2010 world champion actually wants to take on a new challenge in the summer.

Matthäus attests that Hoeneß has the “Bayern gene”

He doesn’t see Jose Mourinho and Joachim Löw as potential successors to Tuchel. “One person I would trust to take on the coaching job in Munich is Sebastian Hoeneß – if he gets the support in the club, and his name already speaks for that,” said Matthäus instead.

The 41-year-old has “the Bayern gene in him and has done a good job as coach of the FCB second team.” “Even if he hasn’t celebrated any great successes yet: everything he does in Stuttgart is effective and he is still on course towards the Champions League with VfB,” said Matthäus.

There are currently numerous coaching rumors surrounding FC Bayern. Zinedine Zidane is also mentioned again and again.

“I don’t think it’s that important that he doesn’t speak German. I think Thomas Tuchel also gave many of his speeches in English and I assume that Zidane also speaks English,” Matthäus responded to the personnel.
