FC Bayern – Leon Goretzka talks about the search for a coach: “If I’m honest…”

National player Leon Goretzka says he is not yet thinking about who will succeed Thomas Tuchel as FC Bayern coach.

“If I’m honest, I’m not concerned with it at all, that’s the club’s job. We’re currently concentrating fully on the season,” said Goretzka on the “Sky” microphone after the 8-1 win against Mainz 05.

Tuchel’s departure from the German record champions at the end of the season is certain. It is still unclear who will be his successor.

The developments surrounding the outgoing head coach and some weak results have caused a lot of unrest in the past few weeks. The game against Mainz was therefore the next liberation for FC Bayern after the victory in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Lazio Rome.

“It was a very convincing victory for us,” said Goretzka. “We played a very good and consistent game for over 90 minutes and finally scored a lot of goals again. Of course that makes it a lot more fun.”

Goretzka admitted that they were “really under pressure” against Lazio. “At the end of the day, it’s also the games that we love, that we want to play as Bayern players. The fact that we passed was good. It’s clear that we want to continue to stay in the flow and that worked well today .”

FC Bayern wants to “be there” when Bayer Leverkusen wobbles

The 29-year-old himself contributed two goals and two assists to his team’s shooting festival.

“I’ve never experienced anything like that. Today I have a special visit from acquaintances and friends who I haven’t seen for a long time. They said: We’re already here, then you have to score a goal too. I then said, “That’s actually no longer possible in the position I now play. The fact that it worked out with four scorer points is of course a nice story,” said Goretzka.

The title race still seems to be over for FC Bayern given the large gap to Bayer Leverkusen. But it is “our duty to the club to do everything we can and to continue to throw everything into the balance to win the games,” emphasized Goretzka. “If Leverkusen starts to wobble, then we have to be there.”
