Oliver Kahn, former CEO of FC Bayern, was “astonished” by Uli Hoeneß’s public criticism. Hoeneß had described Kahn’s employment in the BR as a “big mistake”. Now the former world goalkeeper reacted.

Oliver Kahn reacted to the appearance of FC Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß on Bayerischer Rundfunk. There the 71-year-old said about the club’s former chairman: “The appointment of Kahn was a big mistake.”

Now Kahn reacted: “To be honest, I’m surprised about it,” he explained to “Bild”. “FC Bayern and I agreed in the summer that we wanted to close this chapter on friendly terms and that I would like to remain part of the FC Bayern family in the future. I continue to stand by that. Uli Hoeneß’s current statements do not necessarily contribute to respectful cooperation .”

Kahn and President Herbert Hainer met in the summer and reconciled. As a result, Kahn’s contract, which was valid until the end of 2024, was terminated and the 54-year-old former keeper received a severance payment of four to five million euros. Now Kahn sees part of the agreement broken.

Kahn: “Different ones Ideas about the development of the club”

Hoeneß had, among other things, criticized Kahn’s work ethic. “Today, if someone plays football at Bayern Munich for ten years, he never needs to work at all. Whether a player is prepared to work 12 hours a day, six days a week when he no longer needs it, that is the big question. Oliver Kahn recently said in an interview: ‘A CEO doesn’t have to work 24 hours a day.’ I replied: ‘But it should be twelve,” he said in BR.

Kahn contradicted: “In my role as CEO of FC Bayern, I always acted for the club with the best of my knowledge and belief,” said the 54-year-old. “Unfortunately, after some time it became apparent that there were different ideas about the club’s development and strategy. Ultimately, it was better that everyone went their own way.”

Does Kahn’s future lie in Saudi Arabia?

Nevertheless, Kahn does not want to let the dispute flare up again. “I have made peace with the chapter”. I look to the future with optimism – still on friendly terms with the club”. What exactly that looks like is still unclear. After his trip to Saudi Arabia, there was recent speculation about Kahn’s future in the desert state. As the international Arabic-language newspaper Asharq Al- Awsat reports that Al-Hilal wants to hire Kahn as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
