According to Anderson, Palmer died at his home in Shropshire with family members present. The actual cause of death has not been disclosed, but according to Anderson, Palmer had not been doing well in the past couple of years.

When Anderson and Palmer talked earlier this year, Palmer designed the ballet of The Water’s Edge recording with an orchestra. Palmer, Martin Barre and Anderson composed the piece for the performances of the Scottish Ballet in 1979. Anderson says that he agreed to play the flute on the new recording. He himself was of the opinion that the recordings had only been delayed.

Palmer was formerly known as David. His wife Maggie’s after death she became Dee in 2004, preceded by psychological and medical consultations and surgery. Palmer had four children.

– My fondest memories are mainly related to that pipe-smoking, deep-voiced and creative partner, with whom I enjoyed numerous hot curry dishes and pleasant conversations amidst a cloud of St. Bruno Flake pipe tobacco, Anderson recalls in his writing, freely translated into Finnish.

– Rest in peace, Dave/Dee – apparently you don’t smoke in heaven, Anderson concludes his writing.

Ian Anderson fondly remembers his former band mate. PDO
