FC Barcelona is trying to sign Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane. This report popped up around two weeks ago with consistent information in England and Spain and elicited at least a twitch from many a fan of the record champions. Now the striker himself commented on the speculation about a possible early departure from the Bavarian capital. He emphasized that nothing has yet been decided in one direction or the other regarding the future. He took another stand at a press conference on Tuesday evening.

“I haven’t had contact with anyone, no one has contacted me. I feel very comfortable in the current situation, even though we haven’t spoken to Bayern about my situation yet,” the 32-year-old told “Bild” on Tuesday. “The Guardian” and “Sport” reported in mid-November that Barça had chosen Kane as the priority solution to succeed Robert Lewandowski (37), whose contract is expiring. Kane, for whom Bayern paid Tottenham 95 million euros in the summer of 2023, is once again in outstanding form this season. After eleven Bundesliga matchdays, the world star already has 14 goals and has even contributed 31 goals in 23 competitive games across all competitions. His contract, which runs until 2027, includes an exit clause of 65 million euros for next summer.
Asked when he would make a decision about his future, the striker said: “There is no rush. I’m really happy in Munich. You can see that in the way I’m playing. If there is contact, then we’ll see. But I’m not thinking about the new season yet. First of all, there’s a World Cup in the summer. And it’s very unlikely that anything will change after this season. I’m sure I’ll have discussions with Bayern in the next few months, then we’ll see what’s best for the future is.”
Update 8:48 p.m.: Before the Champions League game at Arsenal, Kane was asked again about his contract situation. “Moving to FC Bayern was one of the best decisions of my life. I’m happy here. I’m open to staying longer,” emphasized the Englishman. “We will be having discussions about a possible new contract in the coming months.”
Bayern boss Hainer is convinced that Kane “is happy.”
If Kane actually decides to transfer to FC Barcelona, he would be the fourth Bayern professional to go this route. In addition to Lewandowski, Arturo Vidal in 2018 and Patrik Andersson in 2001 also left Munich for Catalonia. Four players moved from Barça to Säbener Straße: Philippe Coutinho (2019), Thiago Alcántara (2013), Mark van Bommel (2006) and Mark Hughes (1987).
When asked whether Bayern’s fans should be worried at this point, Kane replied: “No, I don’t think so.” According to reports, the first talks between FCB and its top professional will take place at the beginning of the new year. Bayern President Herbert Hainer also explained in the “Bild” on Tuesday: “When I talk to him, like on Saturday after the game: He is incredibly happy, he is very, very satisfied. What I hear from his family, they feel very, very comfortable. So I don’t know why there would be such a reason to move away from FC Bayern. We still have a year and a half left on our contract and he is playing at an incredibly high level. I am firmly convinced that he likes it very, very much in Munich, that he is happy.”
