FC Bayern | Friend gives hope that Davies will stay: extension “not at all unlikely”

Alphonso Davies is on the verge of leaving FC Bayern. The experts have actually been in agreement on this point for weeks. However, there are now sounds coming from FC Bayern’s management that doubt that the Canadian will set up camp away from Munich in the summer of 2024.

With Real Madrid, a buyer for Alphonso Davies from FC Bayern is said to be ready with open arms; in order to extend his contract, which expires in 2025, the 23-year-old is said to be demanding an enormous salary update that the Munich team will not grant. These circumstances have been reported more or less unanimously for months.

The “Bild” even reported that it is now assumed “internally” at Säbener Strasse that Davies cannot be retained. But the situation is probably not that clear.

An extension with Davies beyond the summer of 2025 is “not at all unlikely,” surprised Bayern’s sports director Christoph Freund in an interview with “Sky” on Tuesday. “There are discussions and they are good and open. We will see how it turns out in the next few weeks,” continued Freund.

The left-back also feels “very comfortable in Munich and really, really enjoys playing for Bayern.” Friend is therefore “not negative”.

Then FC Bayern will sell

“Sky” reported on Monday that the German record champions are currently offering Davies a contract until 2029 and an increase in salary to around 13 million euros per year. Recently there were demands of around 20 million euros per season. Totals that are still quite a bit apart. However, Real Davies is unlikely to offer 20 million euros either.

The TV station also claims to have learned that Bavaria’s new sports director Max Eberl has now declared the negotiations a top priority. However, a clear line should already be defined: If Davies does not reduce his supposed demands, a sale will be made after the season.
