Stood with Peretz and Ulreich

Will Manuel Neuer renew his contract with FC Bayern or will the veteran goalkeeper end his career in the summer? As “Sport Bild” reports, the German record champions have initial doubts as to whether things will continue for Neuer, who turns 40 on March 27th. It is said that the club and the 2014 world champion want to talk to each other at the end of May, during the international break. So far, Neuer has not commented on his plans to the Munich team.
It can be heard from those around the professional that he has not yet made a final decision. The probability of a career continuation is 50 percent. The choice lies entirely with Neuer himself, and in the end his wife Anika is completely behind it. According to the report, the goalkeeper’s signs were already clearly pointing to extra time. As long as Neuer had the necessary fitness, a new contract offer from Bayern was considered a formality. Unlike what was the case in the recent past with club icon Thomas Müller (36), who has been playing for Vancouver in Major League Soccer since August 2025.
The undisputed Bundesliga leaders should be prepared in the event that Neuer’s career ends after the season. The former Cologne player Jonas Urbig would then have the chance to be number one. The only thing that is unclear is who would line up behind the 22-year-old. Alexander Nübel (29), who has been on loan to VfB Stuttgart since 2023, is currently not intended for the role of deputy. Because another loan deal is out of the question for both parties, a sale of the goalkeeper is on the agenda. VfB is likely to be out of the running as a buyer given the million-dollar transfer fee required. There is said to be interest in Nübel from the Premier League.
Goalkeeper carousel at FC Bayern: What’s next for Peretz and Ulreich?
Urbig is tied to FCB until 2029, Nübel even until 2030. Peretz, who is on loan to FC Southampton (FCB contract until 2028), is certainly conceivable as number two, but probably has higher ambitions, which is why the Israeli is also considered not unsaleable.

The working paper from Neuer’s long-time deputy and friend Sven Ulreich is expiring – what happens next is unclear. If both professionals hang up their gloves, those responsible at the club want to discuss buying an experienced replacement. It is possible that 37-year-old Ulreich will take on another role at Bayern.
Neuer is “a legend of this club,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen recently on “Bild-TV”. “It’s very clear that we’re talking to each other. And we’ve also agreed that we’ll talk calmly about the future in the second quarter.” With 589 games, only four players in the club’s history have played more appearances for Munich than Neuer.
