Soap star Scott Bryce has passed away at the age of 68 due to the consequences of cancer. His son shares touching words of farewell, recounting his father’s brave fight up until the last moment.
He Fought Until the End
American soap star Scott Bryce has died at 68. His son, Jackson Bryce, confirmed to the “New York Times” that he passed away on July 12 in a hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. In 2025, the actor publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage three esophageal and stomach cancer. In an Instagram post, his son stated that the disease had since progressed.
“Tonight my father lost his long battle with cancer. What began as stage three esophageal cancer eventually spread and led to brain tumors that took his life,” Jackson wrote. He described how his father faced the illness with pride, courage, and an unwavering belief that everything would turn out well in the end. Just a week before his death, Scott told him he was “ready to fight as hard as necessary.”
“He fought the hardest and most honorable battle I have ever witnessed,” he expressed. “May his strength and unyielding faith live on in me forever.” He further emphasized how much being a father meant to Scott, noting, “Being my dad was always his top priority.”
Success with the Soap Opera “As the World Turns”
Scott Bryce was practically born into acting, as both his father, Ed, and mother, Dorothy, were already in the television industry. He made his TV debut in 1982 as Craig Montgomery in the CBS soap opera “As the World Turns.” Bryce played the role of the ambitious businessman repeatedly over several decades, earning two Daytime Emmy nominations for his performance. He returned to the series intermittently until 2008.
In addition to his signature role, Bryce made guest appearances in numerous productions, including “Golden Girls,” “Murphy Brown,” and “Law & Order.” He also portrayed the father of a cheerleader in the drama series “Popular.” Aside from acting, he worked as a director and producer and often performed on theater stages.
Farewell from Colleagues
His former co-star Finn Carter, who played his wife in “As the World Turns,” bid farewell to him on Instagram. “My grief knows no bounds. My gratitude towards Scott knows even less bounds,” she wrote, describing him as fearless, kind, and generous. “Scott, you were a gift that I did not deserve and one that the world was simply given,” she honored him.
