Catching up against Mainz
FC Bayern breaks Bundesliga record
April 25, 2026 – 7:09 p.mReading time: 1 min.

With a B team, FC Bayern embarrassed themselves in Mainz for 45 minutes. After the change, the stars come – and straighten the picture.
Jamal Musiala jumped into the air three times after the final whistle, and a huge crowd of cheers formed around Harry Kane: the FC Bayern players celebrated the furious comeback against FSV Mainz 05 like they had won a trophy. Despite being 3-0 down at the break, the German champions won 4-3 and thus gained momentum for the Champions League clash at Paris Saint-Germain.
“Reacting like that is crazy. The team is very special. If we didn’t stand together, we wouldn’t be able to play games like this. That gives us a lot of energy for Tuesday,” said sports director Christoph Freund.
Not only did Bayern manage a legendary comeback, they also broke an old Bundesliga record. With the game in Mainz they turned their eighth deficit this season into a win. Only Bayer Leverkusen managed to do this in 1999/2000.
On Tuesday, Bayern will play the semi-final first leg in the Champions League against Paris St. Germain (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online).
