Joshua Kimmich’s contract at FC Bayern expires in summer. After developments in the past few days, the pressure on club and player is growing.

FC Bayern celebrates a 3-1 win at VfB Stuttgart, but after the game, Joshua Kimmich was the determining topic again. The midfielder’s contract expires in summer – and an extension seems more open than ever.

Because the record champion had withdrawn his previous offer to extend the contract at the beginning of the week. The “picture” and the “kicker” had reported that. This threatens a transfer-free departure of the 30-year-old.

Bayern sports director Max Eberl confirmed after the game that the offer is no longer on the table. “If the truth is in public, it is so,” said the 51-year-old. When asked whether the club could afford to let Kimmich go, he replied: “In general, nobody stands above the club. If a player decides differently, then he decides differently. Then FC Bayern will continue.”

Eberl pointed out that many top players had already left the club because there was no agreement. “Then it goes on again and again.” At the same time, he emphasized: “We are not at this point. That was now very generally spoken.”

A contract extension has not yet been excluded. According to the “picture”, the Bayern bosses await a sign from Kimmich on Wednesday until the Champions League duel against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday. If there is no decision by then, the chances of an agreement will decrease.

Kimmich was missing in Stuttgart due to a tendon injury in his thigh. Eberl left open whether he will be ready for use on Wednesday: “I may not reveal. From now on it is poker,” he said with a smile – and added: “It doesn’t look that bad.”
