FC Bayern and RB Leipzig agree on a transfer fee for Max Eberl

Can significantly influence the transfer policy in his position. And Eberl definitely has something on him. Tuchel switching things up and letting things take over can’t work out well in the long run. I feel like he doesn’t give veteran players whose word carries weight the appreciation they need and deserve. He has demoted Müller to a bench warmer and Müller is not someone who just sits on the bench, he is too good for that and is also extremely important as a leader. Kimmich didn’t have his back publicly, but was gossiped about by nee Holding six. Palinha is no better than Kimmich. And he didn’t make Goretzka any better either. So I don’t find Tuchel likeable and see him more as someone who puts his ego above everything. I’m also increasingly annoyed by the transfer requests from the PL. You already know where that comes from.
Eberl has to put things in order!

It could be exciting!
Eberl is of course a good squad planner and negotiator (as long as he is motivated, see M. Ginter), but has never poached on the top shelf.
This will be a new challenge for him and if, like at BMG and RB, he primarily brings in talent, then this is also a risk because more will be expected of you in Munich and therefore also of ME.

Whenever he put his money where his mouth was, the result was average to junk.
He had a knack for top talent.

But that only helps Bayern to a limited extent and when he meets players with real egos (he will have that at Bayern en mas) it will be exciting.

Phew @Foundling73 …I think it’s a bold statement that Eberl’s transfers, for which he spent a lot of money, should only be average or junk.
On the other hand, he has a great knack for top talent… what about top talent for whom he has to spend a lot of money?!

But let’s go through Gladbach’s record signings:

1. Plea, came in the 18/19 season, cost €23 million… Plea certainly had phases where he didn’t play so well, but he still had 112 scorers in a total of 195 competitive games for Gladbach scored (56 goals, 46 assists), is a regular player/top performer, probably the best footballer in the squad – far from average to junk for me.

2. Ginter, came to the 17/18 season, cost €17 million…it’s obviously annoying that Ginter was lost on a free transfer, but he played a total of 179 competitive games in 5 seasons for Gladbach, was a regular player/top performer, was/ is a national player – definitely a good transfer.

3. Kramer, came for the 16/17 season, cost €15 million…in my opinion he could never match the performance he showed during his loan spell with us. But I think most Gladbach fans were happy about the transfer at the time – for me it was €5 million too expensive.

4. Vestergaard, came in the 16/17 season, cost €12.5 million…was with us for 2 seasons, during which time he was a regular player/top performer, then sold on for a big profit – so definitely a good transfer.

5. Lainer, came for the 19/20 season, cost €12.5 million…the first two seasons a regular player with good to decent performances. The coaches after Rose then no longer relied on Lainer as much – overall a solid transfer, perhaps €2-3 million too expensive.

6. de Jong, came in the 12/13 season, cost €12 million…ok, you don’t need to say much, that was a big misunderstanding – not a good transfer from Eberl.

7. Zakaria, came in the 17/18 season, cost €12 million…was with us for 4 1/2 seasons, a regular player/top performer, you still received a transfer fee of €10.88 million six months before the end of the contract (including additional payments) – very good transfer.

8. Embolo, came in the 19/20 season, cost €11 million…was with us for 3 seasons, a total of 106 competitive games (25 goals, 20 assists), then sold for a slight transfer profit – so definitely not average or worse .

9. Wolf, came for the 21/22 season, cost €11 million (including loan fee)… similar to de Jong, there’s not much to say – probably Eberl’s worst transfer.

Those were the transfers that cost over €10 million…of course there are transfers like Drmic (€10 million) who wasn’t really good, but of course there are also transfers like Sommer, Thuram, Kone , Xhaka (all €9m).

We can also look at the transfers that Eberl made during his short time at RB because he already had other financial resources available.

1. Openda, cost €38.5 million, regular player (29 competitive appearances, 18 goals, 4 assists), market value increased – good transfer

2. Lukeba, cost €30 million, regular player, market value increased – good transfer

3. Baumgartner, cost €24 million, not a regular player, but not so bad that one should call it a bad transfer.

4. Sesko, cost €24 million, not a regular player (yet), but I don’t think Sesko was directly planned as a regular player…Potential is definitely visible.

5. Seiwald, cost €20 million, hasn’t really had an impact on RB’s game so far, certainly the biggest “failure” of the 5 players.

It is certainly difficult to evaluate the transfers conclusively now, simply because they have only been at RB for half a season and there is still a lot that can happen in their development (both positive and negative). But when it comes to transfers, you can already say with certainty that not all of them are average or junk.

Now, of course, Eberl has completely different financial resources at Bavaria’s disposal and we have to wait and see how everything goes. But why shouldn’t Eberl also make good transfers for €50-90 million?!
As I said, I don’t see the argument that his expensive transfers were average or worse.

I wish him only the best, especially personally and health-wise. I’m also happy for him that he was finally able to fulfill his dream with Bayern (even if I would have preferred him to have fulfilled his other dream first… winning a trophy with Gladbach). It’s just a shame how the departure from Gladbach went and he really should have saved himself his short trip to RB (and I’m not saying that because I have such great antipathy towards Leipzig), but nevertheless I’ll probably remain eternally grateful to him for his Time and his commitment to the real Borussia.

With all due respect, there is a lot of hope for a good rating.

All in all, Eberl lives from the reputation he built up in Gladbach by leading an almost certain relegated team into the CL.

But it is also a fact that the significant negative trend has already occurred again under Eberl… because he demanded too much on the market out of greed and overestimation of his own worth in the media, which led to this , that rarely anyone seriously asked for these players and the much-needed transfers were paid… no, he boasted that he had kept the team together…

What he was surprised about and ultimately cried about (no one answers the question)… Yes, at least he created added value in terms of the balance sheet. Which in the MW development since 2014 (thanks to China, England) is really no wonder of the world as long as a player doesn’t completely underperform… But on the other hand, it’s also clear that he missed out on Neuhaus, Zakaria, Ginter, Thuram etc to sell when it was actually extremely financially important and profitable for Gladbach and on the other hand it gave a lot of money for players who still have to ask today why… And Plea is definitely a special case, I’m a candidate!

Take the case of Zakaria, for example. With a maximum market value of 45 million… then 11 million emergency sale doesn’t sound so great anymore… especially since you paid 12 million yourself… Ginter cost 17 million…
Thuram was brought in for 9 million… they didn’t get anything in the end because Eberl wanted to squeeze another 1-2 million out of it and he waited too long for one game… According to the media, by the way, they largely agreed with Inter about the transfer fee (30- 35 million) … and and and…

And in Leipzig? Bringing players from Salzburg doesn’t necessarily require a lot of creativity and qualifications… I could do that too… Bringing Lukeba and Openda didn’t really require a lot of creativity either… Rather, luring them with the “Leipzig springboard” argument is almost guaranteed Playing times… Which isn’t great art either… See Olmo, See Gvardiol, see Szoboszlai (hopefully spelled correctly)… Which weren’t cheap no names either…

I wonder what you want with Eberl… Well, like Heidel once did, he has a good reputation and is somehow popular? Why? Like Heidel, it’s not clear to me… The only strength I’ve ever seen in him is that he’s not afraid of a micro and was in the right place at the right time… and admittedly had good scouts here and there…
