FC Bayern and Alba Berlin lose in EuroLeague

The German basketball champions Alba Berlin and league rivals Bayern Munich have suffered the next defeats in the EuroLeague. Alba lost to the Spanish record champions Real Madrid 72:90 (37:53) on Thursday, Bayern lost to the top Greek team Olympiacos Piraeus 71:82 (34:40).

With 13 points, Gabriele Procida was the best scorer for the Berliners, who have won three of their eight games so far. National players Maodo Lo and Johannes Thiemann contributed eight and ten points.

In Madrid, Alba had initial difficulties, but came into play better at the end of the first quarter (20:26). However, the Spaniards then pulled away and temporarily extended their lead to up to 25 points.

As Munich’s best thrower, Ognjen Jaramaz scored twelve points. Head coach Andrea Trinchieri’s side have only recorded two wins after eight games, one of which Bayern celebrated last week in a duel at Alba.

In the home arena, the Munich team around national players Niels Giffey, Andreas Obst and Nick Weiler-Babb fell behind immediately, which was 16 points at the end of the first quarter. Even if the German runner-up managed to work his way up again and again, it wasn’t enough in the end.

The next Bundesliga games for both teams are scheduled for the weekend. Bayern are guests at Syntainics MBC Weißenfels on Saturday (6 p.m.), Alba welcomes MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg on Sunday (6 p.m./both MagentaSport).
