Gernot Mang, President of TSV 1860 Munich, and his FC Bayern counterpart, Herbert Hainer, recently met at a conference of Bavarian tob clubs. Hainer didn’t even know who he was dealing with.
“That was a different kind of encounter,” Mang reported afterwards to the Munich “Abendzeitung”. At the end of the conference he “briefly introduced himself” to Hainer, whereupon the Bayern president replied: “And who are you? From sixty? And what are you doing?”
For Mang it was a disrespect that reflected FC Bayern’s arrogance, for Hainer it was the most normal thing in the world. “To be honest, I don’t understand it at all. I went and greeted him, but unfortunately I didn’t know him,” he said on “Sport1” and poked fun at his chronically unstable city rivals. “It’s not the case that at sixty a president will be there for 25 years.”
