It is the first time since the 1968-1969 season that FC Barcelona failed to win the first game of the season when it was played at home.
Pole Robert Lewandowski failed to distinguish himself in his first official game for Barça. The striker who came over from Bayern Munich played the entire game after being declared eligible at the last minute. Ten minutes before the end he shot just wide with the left.

Frenkie de Jong came in for Gavi after an hour and Memphis Depay remained on the bench for the entire game. Ansu Fati and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came on in the final phase, but they also failed to ensure the liberating 1-0. Jules Koundé was still missing from the home team because he had not yet been registered.
In the final phase, FC Barcelona had to continue with ten men after a red card for captain Sergio Busquets, who hit Radamel Falcao in the face. Shortly afterwards, Falcao appeared to make the 0-1, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
