The Spanish league wants to have the game permit for European champion Dani Olmo canceled in a dispute with FC Barcelona. Administrative complaint has been filed and urgent preliminary measures have been requested so that the Barça professional Olmo and Pau Víctor should not be used, the organization in Madrid said. Laliga is responding to a decision by the Supreme Sports Court of Spain (CSD), which in the dispute between the organization and the Catalans only confirmed the licenses of the ex-Leipziger Olmo and also by Víctor a few days ago.

The two professionals and the Catalan club had previously appealed to the CSD’s appeal against the refusal to play the game by the league and the National Association RFEF. The judges at the CSD then justified their decision from the beginning of April with the statement that the surveillance committee on the coordination agreement between RFEF and Laliga was not authorized to refuse the player licenses.

This decision, according to Laliga in her communiqué, is “a serious violation of the regulatory framework in relation to economic control and the granting of sports licenses”. Among other things, it also endangers the principle of equality between the clubs, it was said just two days before the Champions League quarter-final first leg between the team of coach Hansi Flick and Borussia Dortmund.

FC Barcelona threatens again with a high loss of millions

The back and forth around Olmo has to do with Barça’s financial difficulties. The highly indebted club was initially unable to present a solution to meet the conditions for registration. The breakthrough finally came through the sale of VIP lodges in the modernized stadium Camp Nou, although the team does not play there yet. An Arab investment fund is said to have paid 100 million euros. According to the association and league, Barcelona was only able to show this sum after the deadline.

If the game permit is finally refused, a free transfer from Olmo, which would burden Barça with over 260 million euros. When moving from RB Leipzig to Barcelona, the offensive midfielder signed a contract for 55 million euros by 2030 in the summer of 2024. He is entitled to the entire salary.
