Contract with FCA ended
Rafal Gikiewicz is likely to move on to Turkey after the end of his contract with FC Augsburg. Like the well-informed Turkish reporter Ertan Süzgün reported, the 35-year-old keeper has reached an agreement with the first division club MKE Ankaragücü. Specifically, it should be a working paper until 2024 with an option for another year.
This means that the Pole would leave Germany after nine years in which he played for 1. FC Union Berlin, SC Freiburg and Eintracht Braunschweig in addition to Augsburg. He played by far the most games (95) for FCA. He has kept goal for the Fuggerstadt team since 2020 before his contract was not extended in the summer. The Gikiewicz personnel caused a stir towards the end, as the regular was only two games short of activating a clause for an automatic extension. However, he missed the last seven league games due to shoulder problems and the chance for a new contract passed.
