FC Augsburg: Coach Markus Weinzierl leaves the future open

talks over the next week

FC Augsburg and coach Markus Weinzierl want to start talks about the future of the 47-year-old “next week”. “I also have one or two questions that are then decisive,” Weinzierl, whose contract is expiring, left his whereabouts open and gave as examples: “What are the goals? What are the requirements?”

The Augsburgers have been able to plan for their twelfth season in the Bundesliga since the last matchday. “I haven’t really thought about it yet. The season is not over,” Weinzierl said about his future at the press conference before the last home game on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) against relegated Greuther Fürth.

Weinzierl is the coach of FC Augsburg for the second time. The 47-year-old came in the closing stages of last season and, like this season, managed to stay up. “It’s clear that you want more. That it’s always the task to finish above your budget, above your means,” explained the coach, who has scored an average of 1.1 points in 37 games with FCA since taking office.

Weinzierl not only wants to do the mandatory task with FC Augsburg

Weinzierl described staying in the class as a compulsory task. Freestyle be it to play internationally or to land on a one-digit place in the table. “We have a great base here. I think we also have potential. But you don’t get that for free,” said the football teacher. FCA managing director Stefan Reuter had recently indicated a contract extension with Weinzierl. “We don’t have to open the topic,” said Reuter. Both sides knew what they had in each other, the manager emphasized.
