“Look at this beautiful leather coat with lilies on it or this coat made entirely of marabou feathers!” says museum director Marieke Uildriks, as she proudly walks through the Fong-Leng exhibition.
The exuberant creations of the Amsterdam fashion icon are displayed on dolls. The back wall shows video footage of fashion shows from the 70s and 80s. “During that period, Fong-Leng broke through and stood out not only with her creations, but also with her special fashion shows in, for example, the Beurs van Berlage and the Van Gogh Museum,” says Uildriks.
She secretly wore a Fong-Leng dress once in her life. It was a dress that the museum had on loan. “It was very special, because at that moment you feel like a living work of art,” she says with a broad smile on her face.
