Bayern fans protest against Uli Hoeneß

Even before the game against St. Pauli, Uli Hoeneß had to endure criticism – from his own fans. Another protest also attracted attention.
FC Bayern Munich fans have criticized their own honorary president Uli Hoeneß. Before Munich’s Bundesliga game against FC St. Pauli (3-1), the Bayern fan curve in the Allianz Arena showed a large banner. It said: “Uli, when will you finally realize that football in Germany is unimaginable without 50+1!”
The background to the fan protest against Hoeneß are statements the 73-year-old made in the “OMR” podcast during the week. There he appeared open to abolishing the 50+1 rule, which prevents investors from taking over majorities in football clubs in German football.
“I believe that sooner or later the 50+1 rule will have to fall in Germany,” Hoeneß said. “That’s not important for Bayern Munich, because we can keep up with our possibilities,” continued Hoeneß, emphasizing: “In this respect, I can do a lot to achieve this without gaining any advantages of my own. I simply believe that it would be helpful for many clubs if they could receive international money.”
The German fan scene has been advocating for the 50+1 rule to be maintained for years. Now the Bayern fans again. However, it wasn’t just Hoeneß who was the target of fans’ critical posters. Another poster showed Hamburg Interior Senator Andy Grote with a baton sticking out of his crotch. Football fans can also be seen being monitored by a police officer and several cameras. A banner read: “Grote is swinging his disproportional cock again.”
The background to this protest is the plans of the Conference of Interior Ministers, which probably wants to decide on tougher security measures for football games. The fans are resisting this and recently protested by initially not supporting their teams during the first twelve minutes of the games.
The Bayern fans’ poster refers to a scandal surrounding Grote in 2021. At that time he was called a “dick” on the X platform (then Twitter). After Grote filed a criminal complaint, a house search was carried out on the alleged author of the post.
