Jurry’s Patathuis in Meppel was named the best cafeteria in Drenthe 2022 during the Dutch Horeca Awards. And so Jurry Frank’s business proudly displays a certificate.
“We have been nominated for the prize by others. A nice appreciation of course,” says Frank. In addition to a certificate, he can therefore call himself the best cafeteria in Drenthe for a year. “And we won a cash prize of 50,000 euros. Just kidding, of course. If only it were like that.”
He no longer does that in Meppel. His current business is too small for that. Now he is winning again. His secret? “I think the baking time. You shouldn’t take the fries and snacks out of the fryer too quickly. You have to take your time. You also have to keep the fat and oil in good condition.”
Winning this prize is no reason for Frank to increase the prices of the croquettes and cheese soufflés. Even though his energy bill is high. “Everyone is having a hard time. It has to remain affordable. That’s why I want to keep normal prices. Then I work a little harder, it doesn’t matter, because I like doing it.”
