The rivalry between the MSV Duisburg and Rot-Weiss Essen is known. After a duel on Saturday, the relationship is even more tense.

The final in the Lower Rhine Cup between the MSV Duisburg and Rot-Weiss Essen overshadowed a dramatic incident. In the first half, a viewer had to be medical care and reanimated. While the fans of the MSV were holding back in view of the serious situation, the followers of RWE continued. This behavior annoyed the Duisburgers.

MSV coach Dietmar Hirsch clearly criticized the behavior of the Essen fans in the ARD. In his opinion, “a bit went down that a fan fought for his life”. While the Duisburg viewers hired the support, the Essen fans would have sung on. “I find that bottomless,” said Hirsch.

After the incident, the award ceremony did not take place on the lawn as planned, but in the cabin gang. On Saturday evening, the MSV had no information about the condition of the affected fan.

In terms of sport, the third division team from Essen went out as the winner. In front of 27,000 spectators in the sold-out Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena, RWE won the final against the regional league master Duisburg 2-1 (1: 1). The Esseners secured the national cup for the third time in a row and will be in the first round of the DFB Cup in the coming season.

First Steffen Meuer put the MSV in the lead in the 18th minute. Shortly before the break, Klaus Gjasula equalized (45.+1). Ramien Safi scored the decisive 2-1 for RWE in the 52nd minute.

The police duel was classified as a high -risk game by the police. Never before came more spectators to a Lower Rhine Cup final.
