This was announced by the Ministry of University and Research, confirming one of the greatest transformations in the system of access to these academic paths. From the academic year 2025/2026, in fact, The traditional entrance test disappearsreplaced by a new model based on a semester of lessons open to all, followed by national exams.

From next September, therefore, Anyone can start attending the lessons of the first halfwithout having to pass an exam to access. It is the so -called open semester, an introductory phase accessible to everyone, which will allow students to measure themselves with three fundamental subjects, Chemistry, physics and biologybefore facing a national test that will determine the definitive access to the courses.
How and when to register
Registrations will take place through the platform University Starting from 23 June and will remain open until the end of July. When sending the application, each candidate must indicate: Lat the university where he intends to attend the open semester; a degree course “Affinand ”to be activated if it is not admitted to medicine e A maximum of 10 preferences for alternative locations Both for the open semester and for similar courses.

Lessons and subjects of the first half
The semester will begin on September 1, 2025 and will end at the end of November. In these three months, students will follow lessons on three key disciplines: chemistry and biochimic, physical, biology. Each subject assigns 6 CFUs, for a total of 18 training credits. This introductory semester not only serves as a preparation basis, but the CFU will also be recognized in the similar courses, in the event that the student does not enter medicine.
The exams: how they work and when they keep
At the end of the semester open, All students will have to take three exam testsone for each subject, identical on a national scale. There are two appeals expected: 20 November 2025 and 10 December 2025. Each test includes 31 questions, divided between: V15 multiple choice questions (with five options, only one correct) E16 questions to complete.
Participants will have 45 minutes for each exam. The scores will be calculated as follows: +1 point for each exact answer, 0 points for not given answers, -0.25 for incorrect answers.
The maximum reachable score is 93 points overall. In order to access the national ranking, it is mandatory to obtain at least 18/30 in each of the three tests.
Faculty of Medicine, the national ranking
Once the exams are completed, the results will flow into a unique ranking at national level. This ranking will determine who can continue in the second half of the courses In medicine, dentistry or veterinary, and who instead will have to continue their academic path during the similar course chosen during the enrollment. In case of non -access, the semester can be repeated up to three times, even not consecutively.
More places available, more resources to universities
To support the reform, the ministry asked universities to increase the number of places available once again, prejecting the admission of further 3,000 students. The goal stated by Minister Anna Maria Bernini is to definitively overcome the limited number system and make access to medicine more inclusive.
“We have eliminated the expensive and not very useful tests that have fueled an entire parallel market of preparation,” said the minister, stressing that it will no longer be necessary to enroll in private courses or pay high figures to be able to aspire to enter medicine.
Affine courses: an alternative with outlets
In the event that a student cannot get a place in medicine after the semester open, However, their studies can continue in the similar courses, using the already acquired cluts. These courses are part of the following degree classes: L-2 Biotechnology, L-13 Biological Sciences, LM-13 Pharmacy and Industrial Pharmacy (Single Cycle), L-38 Zootechnical Sciences and Technologies of Animal Productions and some selected courses of health professions, identified annually by the Ministry.
Enrollment in the first half of the Affine course will be free and not bound by frequency obligationseven where foreseen by the internal regulations of the universities.
TESTS FOR COURSES IN English Language
The only exception to this new way concerns medical, dentistry and veterinary courses paid in English, for which the admission test remains in force.
The selection tests for these routes are set for September 17, 2025.
