Fabio Jakobsen does it all alone in Belgium after chaotic Golden Kilometer, Tadej Pogacar also wins | cycling

Fabio Jakobsen has won the final stage in the Tour of Belgium. After a tumultuous final phase, the Dutchman from Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl was left without teammates. Nevertheless, there was no limit to the former Dutch champion.

In the flat final stage, the overall victory was still at stake and the decision would fall in the Golden Kilometer. There were bonus seconds to be won and Tim Wellens and Jakobsens teammate and classification leader Mauro Schmid did everything they could to get them. Wellens won the first intermediate sprint, but then the Belgian was pushed aside several times by Schmid’s teammate Yves Lampaert. This allowed Schmid to grab just enough seconds in the next intermediate sprints to secure the overall victory.

Wellens was very disappointed afterwards, but kept himself reasonably quiet about the behavior of his compatriot. ,,I won the Tour of Belgium without Lampaert’s actions. But even if they disqualify him now, I won’t win the race.” The Belgian from Lotto-Soudal has to be satisfied with second place, in the same time as Schmid. Quinten Hermans is number three.

Because of all the hassle in that Golden Kilometer, Jakobsen had to figure it out all by himself in the final sprint in Beringen. He beat the Belgians Jasper Philipsen and Gerben Thijssen by force majeure. ,,The first goal of the team was the overall win and as agreed we used the entire team for that. After that I found my own way and that went well. I can do it without Michael Morkov, but that makes it more difficult.” It was already the tenth victory of the season for the top sprinter.

Tour of Slovenia

Tadej Pogacar has won the Tour of Slovenia. The top favorite of the Tour de France won the last stage and the final classification this afternoon. In a sprint on the fifth and final stage, Pogacar beat Matej Mohoric. The two had escaped with Rafal Majka on the last climb of the day, a ride between Vrhnika to Novo Mesto over slightly hilly roads. The Pole was unable to interfere in the stage victory, making it a battle between the two Slovenians.

For Pogacar it was the second stage win in this Tour of Slovenia. Majka won two other stages. Dylan Groenewegen was the best in the bunch sprint in the second stage.
