The military equipment destined by NATO countries to Ukraine must be safely reached. For that goal, Dutch F-35 combat aircraft monitor the NATO air space over Eastern Europe from 1 September up to and including 1 December 2025.

The Dutch operate together with a Norwegian F-35-air power detachment. The target corresponds to the so -called Quick Reaction Alert. Fight aircraft are ready 24 hours a day to respond quickly to possible intruders in NATO air space.

At the request

The Netherlands uses the F-35s at the request of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (Shape). This is the NATO central command center in Europe. NATO controls the combat aircraft.

The Dutch F-35s contribute to the deterrence of Russia. “It is essential that we contribute to the defense of the NATO territory and the safety of Europe,” said Minister Brekelmans. “We do that again with our most advanced capacities. By using these Dutch F-35s for the monitoring of the airspace above Eastern Europe, we protect military equipment intended for Ukraine. We can also quickly respond to (threatening) violations of NATO air space. The Russian threat is literally remotely remotely. is very effective against this. ”
