Dayot Upamecano’s contract with FC Bayern expires at the end of the season. Coach Vincent Kompany has now made it clear that he would welcome an extension.
“I always see my players a little better than everyone else. Dayot Upamecano is an absolutely important part of our team,” said Kompany at the press conference before the Champions League game at Paris Saint-Germain.
However, the coach cannot decide on the Frenchman’s future. “We have very clearly defined roles in our club. It’s not just me who makes the decision. I can judge his sporting qualities,” said Kompany: “I see him as a very good and happy player.”
Upamecano’s contract with FC Bayern expires in the summer. According to media reports, the central defender is toying with a move to European competition.
Liverpool FC, Manchester City and Chelsea FC as well as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are said to be interested in signing him.
Most recently it was said that the Munich team would like to extend Upamecano’s expiring contract. According to “Sport Bild” information, it is hoped that the player will voluntarily give up money. However, given the other options available to him, that seems unlikely.

Kompany gives PSG the role of favorite
At the PK, Kompany also commented on the upcoming duel against PSG.
“It’s a league game, but it’s important for us. We don’t all play against the same opponents. Our calendar is one of the most difficult. Whoever wins the game tomorrow has taken a big step towards the top eight. Of course it’s also about prestige,” said the Belgian.
FC Bayern needs “a perfect game” to win against the French. “We’re playing against the Champions League winner and one of the favorites. Away from home it’s an extra level of difficulty. We have to believe in our chance,” noted Kompany.
