The expansion of De Ark caravan center in Emmen will cost the municipality a little more than six million euros. There are plans to expand this location with 42 new pitches.

The Emmen city council will consider the long -awaited expansion of the Ark next month. Part of the plan is the construction of 12 rental and 4 transfer homes.

In recent years, the caravan community in Emmen has shown more locations. At the moment, Emmen has 148 locations, spread over five locations: the Ark and on the Streen Valtherlaan, Vleerackers, Common Swift and Lijsterveld. The existing waiting list has since risen to 243. The Ark in particular, as the largest location, is in demand.

In recent years it seemed to happen. The municipality, representatives of the Ark and housing association Lefier regularly sat together on the table for this. Last year, 42 extra places seemed to be within reach, but Lefier withdrew as a financier for the social rental wages at the last minute. In May the municipality decided to take on that role and the rental.

The current plan provides for the construction of 42 locations. These are again subdivided into 26 purchasing sites, 12 rental sites and four so -called flow pitches.

The costs for the construction and construction of the rental and flow spots (total of 6.28 million euros) is covered by renting. A shortage is expected in the early years, the municipality wants to take care of it through its own reserves. The land exploitation (the costs for building and living at the site of the site) shows a deficit of more than 1.9 million euros, but a reserve pot is also considered for this.

The monthly rent will be around 900 euros (bare rent). These homes remain in the possession of the municipality.

The necessary zoning plan change will be submitted to the council next month. With green light, the shovel will go into the ground next year. The new pitches and homes are expected to be put into use at the end of 2026.
