Explosion at until recently heavily guarded home in Huizen | NOW

An explosion took place at a house on the Roef in Huizen in the night from Saturday to Sunday. The house was severely damaged. NH News reports that until recently the affected home was specially secured by the police.

A number of surrounding homes have been evacuated because it is not clear whether the explosion risk has passed. A police spokesman could not say exactly how many homes were involved. No one else was injured in the explosion.

A special police security unit is said to have secured the neighborhood for days, it said NH News† The police were present with automatic weapons and armored cars. The unit would not have been present when the blast happened.

According to , the mayor of Huizen has NH News last week decided to close the house for serious safety reasons. It is unknown what kind of threat it is. An opposite house would also have been closed, but the police cannot confirm that yet.

According to a police spokesman, the facade of the affected home has suffered extensive damage. The street has been closed off and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) is investigating.
