Borussia Dortmund continues to upgrade: BVB has signed the next prominent player for the women’s team’s promotion mission.

After the sensational signing of DFB legend Alexandra Popp, the Black and Yellows achieved another coup with the transfer of Austrian national goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger

The 30-year-old is moving from English runner-up Arsenal FC to the ambitious regional league team, where she will receive a contract until the summer of 2029.

“With her experience at the highest level, she will be an important support for our team and make a decisive contribution to achieving our sporting goals in the coming years,” BVB managing director Svenja Schlenker was quoted as saying.

The former Bayern keeper won the German championship with the Munich team in 2015 and 2016, and Zinsberger finally moved to London in 2019.

“I notice the energy in the club”

Zinsberger wants to achieve high goals with Borussia

“The vision of creating something big immediately convinced me,” explained the Austrian, who won the Champions League with Arsenal last year: “I notice the energy in the club. Every single soul here is burning to achieve the big goal of the Bundesliga. I want to be a part of that.”

However, due to a torn cruciate ligament, the goalkeeper has not played a game since last October.

BVB is preparing for the long-term goal of the Bundesliga

Zinsberger is the next well-known transfer from Dortmund, who missed out on promotion to the 2nd league.

Ex-national player Jacqueline Meißner as well as Ramona Maier and Lena Ostermeier come from Bundesliga relegated SGS Essen, and Ricarda Walkling and Lara Schmidt from Werder Bremen. It is anything but impossible that further top deals will be made in the coming weeks.

Ralf Kellermann, a long-time Wolfsburg resident, is now taking over the sports director position, and he is also bringing some praise with him to Westphalia.
