Chicago Fire are apparently planning a spectacular double transfer: Leon Goretzka is supposed to go to the MLS – together with an old acquaintance from Munich.
The US MLS club Chicago Fire apparently has big plans for the coming summer: According to a report by the sports portal “The Athletic”, the club wants to sign the German national player Leon Goretzka – together with the Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.
“The Athletic” relies on sources who are familiar with the situation but are not allowed to speak publicly. Goretzka’s contract with FC Bayern Munich expires on June 30th – in just under three weeks. The 31-year-old is currently with the German national team at the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. According to the report, there is also interest in the midfielder from some top European clubs.
Lewandowski is scheduled to be in Chicago this weekend
Lewandowski (37), who once played with Goretzka at FC Bayern before moving to FC Barcelona, has been in Chicago Fire’s sights for a long time. His contract with the Catalans also expires at the end of June. He did not qualify for the World Cup with the Polish national team. According to The Athletic, Lewandowski will be in Chicago this weekend.
If the goalscorer were to sign a contract with Chicago Fire, there would be no space left for another so-called “Designated Player” – according to the portal. In the MLS, three such players are allowed per club, whose salary may exceed the regular salary limit. However, the clubs always find possible solutions for this, it was said.
