If it becomes really dangerous in our country, the Special Interventions (DSI) service will take action. The national team is mainly used for arrests of potentially firearming suspects, a hostage -taking or terrorist threats. And also on Thursday in Roosendaal, when a man was taken out of his house after a long -term surrounding.
The threat was so exceptionally high that a heavily armed police team of the DSI was called. A robotond was also used. The Roosendaalse Wijk was completely closed off and residents of the Cardinal Van Rossumstraat were forced to leave their house.
The first reports of a man who would show ‘worrying behavior’ arrived around two o’clock in the afternoon. Among other things, an arrest team of the police and the Explosives Security team went to the surroundings of the house. For a long time, the safety region, which coordinated the situation in Roosendaal, kept its lips on each other about what exactly happened in the house.
Planned arrests, deep into the night
You don’t just see the DSI. This often concerns planned arrests that are usually performed deep into the night. And even if someone is a danger to himself or his or her environment, as seemed to be the case in Roosendaal. Or in people who are confused behavior.

The DSI was originally founded in 2006 to take faster and better action in arrests with a terrorist purpose. But there are several types of teams that fall under the name DSI, including the arrest and support teams (AOT). These are used for things where there is no terrorist purpose. The agents who are part of the AOT have had a very heavy training.
GRIP1
Around half past four the action around the Cardinal van Rossemstraat gained momentum. The entire neighborhood where the street is located was closed. The gas of the houses in the street was closed and the emergency services scoured to GRIP1. This is done when there is a crisis situation where it is important that emergency services can consult with each other.
For example, a unit was set in Roosendaal on Doctor Schaepmanlaan where the emergency services can consult. This is also called a command place incident. Representatives of the various emergency services then coordinate how the situation will be tackled. Even with large fires, GRIP 1 is often scaled up.
Robotond
The Explosives Security team was also called for the ‘worrying situation’ in Roosendaal. That team normally comes into action if there is explosives or suspicious cases that look like that. A special robotond also had to be used.

The dog is a robot on four legs with a camera and a large search light. The robot is used to do research in a drug lab, for example. Then it is checked whether it is safe inside and whether there is no pressure on barrels and boilers that can explode. The machine is mainly used for exploring terrain. It is the only one of its kind in Europe.
Negotiator
In the end, police officers managed to get the man out of the house. More and more often the police use these types of negotiators. In 2023, 1200 times a negotiator had to be used, a doubling compared to 2017.
The negotiators are often used in crisis cases when someone is in psychological need and threatens with suicide. But they can also be used for hostages.
Negotiators also give advice to the so -called incident management team on the best approach to the situation. Police officers also receive special training to do the work.
