Jasmine Valentin, 48, was only a singer in her early twenties when she was selected as the Finnish Eurovision Song Contest in 1996.

Jasmine also remembers how she experienced a sense of outwardness at a young age because of her Roma background.

– In the first grade, I felt very strong that I didn’t belong, he continues.

Jasmine wants to encourage Roma youth so that you don’t have to be ashamed of her own roots. According to Jasminen, the dressing of the Roma still has strong prejudices.

– Many don’t really know what Roma culture really involves. For me, Roma culture is about getting along with everyone and being tolerant and helping if someone is in trouble.
