Ex-tennis star Jelena Dokic wanted to take her own life: “Constant crying”

Australia’s Jelena Dokic has revealed she was on the verge of taking her own life. She now reported on the circumstances of her suicidal thoughts in a social media post.

Former tennis player Jelena Dokic had thoughts of suicide. The former number four in the world now revealed this in an emotional Instagram post.

There the 39-year-old reports that on April 28 of this year she was about to take her own life. Dokic writes that she “almost jumped off her 26th floor balcony.”

And further: “I will never forget this day. Everything is blurry. Everything is dark.”

She further reports that for the past six months she has struggled with anxiety and depression.

“It was constant crying everywhere. From hiding in the bathroom at work to wipe away my tears so no one would see them, to crying incessantly at home in my own four walls, it was unbearable,” reports Dokic. “Having professional help saved my life.”

A few months before her near-suicide, it was announced that she had split from her long-term boyfriend Tin Bikic after more than 18 years.

In 2017, Dokic published an autobiography entitled Unbreakable, in which she recounted years of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of her father.
