Luke Littler is now the largest star in the darts scene. Despite the comet-like climb, or maybe because of this, the 18-year-old is not celebrated everywhere. Ex-professional Vincent van der Voort therefore sees some problems coming to the youngster.
In the latest edition of the “Darts Draait Door”, ex-professional Vincent van der Voort spoke about Luke Littler’s growing image problem: “This is definitely a problem, precisely because he still has so much in front of him.”
“I met him behind the scenes – he was clearly dissatisfied. He now has a serious problem: he is almost only popular in England, and even not everywhere. Outside of England, he meets a lot of rejection, even in America,” continued the Dutch.
Luke Littler: Does the image of his career harm?
Littler had recently only reached the quarter -finals in New York. During the games it became clear that he also has not only fans in the United States. A problem that Little is not unknown. In the past few months, “The Nuke” had repeatedly been annoyed and indicated by the fans at tournaments in Germany and indicated that it was no longer at tournaments in this country.
Van der Voort believes that the current development could harm Littler in the long term: “Something has to change so that the public is more behind him. It is frustrating to constantly demand recognition and still hardly get any.”
Above all, the sometimes provocative statements of the teenager as well as “unusual actions and behavior patterns” on stage are no help.
“He still has a lot to learn. It is a shame that he doesn’t have the right people around who show him what works and what is not. At 18 you are far from being finished in personal development. Sometimes you think you are over things, and later you notice that the parents were often right,” summed up van der voort.
