Peter Obermeyer died at the age of 83. This was announced by his former Hannover 96 association. Accordingly, Obermeyer died on May 29 after an accident. The burial are carried out in the closest family circle. At Hannover 96 Obermeyer worked as a manager in 1994.
Born in Hanover, he started his football career as an active at Arminia Hannover, where he played on the left wing. From 1970 he played in Chile, later also became a coach there. His stations led him to other countries – 21 in number in which he was active for the DFB as a trainer and consultant.
Obermeyer also worked at Hannover 96 after his active athlete career. There he was a manager in 1994 – but only for 62 days. He gave up his position after a dispute with the then coach Rolf Schafstall.
In an interview with Hannover96.de, Obermeyer said years later that he should have rejected the post as a 96 manager. Shortly after a call of 96, he was sitting at a table with eight, nine people of the club – and his feeling said that he should not accept the offer of becoming a manager. “Except for Martin Brandstaedter, there was no idea about football,” Obermeyer is quoted. “Nevertheless, I let myself be chatted.”
Obermeyer most recently lived in Hanover. His brother Frank is the team leader of the 96 tradition team.
