Ex-Juventus flop Mohamed Ihattaren signs for Slavia Prague

Last use in May 2022

Mohamed Ihattaren will return to the football stage next year. After terminating his contract with Juventus at the end of July, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder is joining Slavia Prague. Ihattaren receives a one-year contract with the second-placed team in the Czech Fortuna League with an option for a further three years. The club said the contract was primarily based on performance components.

For Ihattaren, once considered a great talent, Prague is the fifth professional station after PSV Eindhoven, Juventus, Sampdoria and Ajax Amsterdam. The left-footer, who was born in Utrecht, moved from PSV to the “Old Lady” in Turin for 1.9 million euros in 2021, who immediately transferred the offensive power to Genoa. However, Ihattaren, who has long had a reputation as a “problem professional” and who has since disappeared, was never on the pitch for the Bianconeri. There has even been speculation about the end of his career.

At the beginning of August, Samsunspor announced an agreement with Ihattaren, only to have to roll backwards two days later. According to the Süper Lig newcomer, an obligation failed because the Dutchman tried to change the previously agreed conditions and made unacceptable demands. Ihattaren last played a competitive game for Ajax II in May 2022; he played most of his games for Eindhoven, where he also reached his highest market value of 22 million euros at the age of 17.

“Mohamed was considered a great talent in Dutch football, he showed great ability at a young age. Unfortunately, his development and career were severely affected by the death of his father, which had a great influence on him. There followed a period in which football completely fell by the wayside. Slavia wants to give him a second chance. Ihattaren is working on himself and wants to return to professional football. Today he has a functioning family background and a great motivation to be successful,” wrote the Prague-based team about their decision to sign Ihattaren.
