In 2009, Palacio moved to Italy to join Genoa CFC, who, after three very successful years – in 2011/12 the attacker scored his personal best in terms of goals per season with 19 Serie A goals – sold him to Inter Milan for €10.5m delivered. During this time, Palacio did not win any titles with the Nerazzurri, but was consistently one of the top strikers in the league. Four years at FC Bologna between 2017 and 2021 completed his Serie A time, during which he had 93 goals and 67 assists in 357 games. In total, 13 other foreign professionals have played more frequently in the Italian top flight than Palacio, with only two Argentines being Néstor Sensini (383) and record holder Javier Zanetti (615).
