The long-standing Bundesliga professional Matthias Ostrzolek has found a new club after almost ten months without a club – in the fifth-rate Bayernliga Süd. VfB Hallbergmoos from north of Munich confirmed to “Merkur” that the 32-year-old left-back was “right to play immediately”: “As of now, he is in the squad on Friday.”
As the newspaper reports, the commitment came about because Ostrzolek, who played for FC Admira Wacker Mödling in the Austrian Bundesliga until last summer, knows assistant coach Bastian Bornkessel from school. VfB sporting director Anselm Küche said: “He wants to help us and is playing in the second half of the season. He’s a great soccer player and a great guy! Totally down to earth. It’s a cool thing for us that he’s there.”
The former U21 international, who played for VfL Bochum, FC Augsburg, Hamburger SV and Hannover 96, wants to see the first steps on the way to a coaching career in Hallbergmoos: “It’s a win-win situation. (…) He definitely helps our team with his experience and quality.” VfB is in the midst of a fight against relegation in the Bayernliga Süd. only eleven points. The gap to the saving bank is almost unassailable 19 points, but only the 18th is directly relegated, places 14 to 17 are in the relegation.
