In 2021 he had switched from FC Bayern to Real Madrid free of charge – and stayed there by bad luck. Because David Alaba has been injured again.

David Alaba has to cope with the next health setback. As Real Madrid announced on Friday, the 33-year-old suffered a muscle injury in the left calf at the club World Cup in the USA. The club did not provide any information about the exact severity of the injury and a possible downtime.

The Austrian national team captain, whose contract with the royal people until 2026, has been fighting for months with a number of injuries. After a cruciate ligament rupture in December 2023, a meniscus tear and problems on the adductors followed last season. In the 2024/25 season, the former Bayern professional only came to 14 missions-at the current club World Cup, he was not yet on the pitch.

Real already reacted personally: on June 1st, the club signed the 20-year-old Dean Huijsen for 60 million euros. The central defender, born in Amsterdam with Spanish passport, played all three group games of the record champions at the club World Cup over the full distance.
