Ewout Klok passes on the baton of his gas station: ‘My whole life consists of petrol’

His cradle was along the Hoogeveense Vaart, near the BMW dealer and petrol pump of father Roelof and mother Elly. The future of Ewout Klok, who had gasoline running through his veins at a young age, was therefore predestined. He took the initiative within the family business and ran the well-known pumping station for decades Refueling at Clock on Schutstraat.

The gas station grew into a household name in Hoogeveen and the surrounding area. Despite his success, born entrepreneur Klok exchanges the pump for a new life. He will be renting out his business from October.

For everyone who has kept their vehicle for 60 years Clock If you fill it up, nothing will change, the owner reassures us. “The new tenant, De Haan Mineral Oils, came our way. They only operate pumping stations, but they honor our name. I am proud of that,” he says in the Radio Drenthe program Cassata.

The 56-year-old petrol boss, who lives in Ten Arlo, does not yet know which next project he will be involved in. A place in the House of Representatives on behalf of the VVD seemed one of the future scenarios, but the national selection committee passed over Klok. “We have now put it out of our minds,” he says about the issue.

What will come his way is uncertain. It will almost certainly be something other than cars and fuel. “My whole life consists of gasoline,” jokes Klok.
