Kim Lea Müller won Germany’s first medal at the European Championships in BMX Freestyle. The Czech Iveta Miculyčová won gold. Lara Marie Lessmann, on the other hand, was disappointed.

The European champion in BMX freestyle comes from the Czech Republic: Iveta Miculyčová scored 80.00 out of a possible 99.99 points.

It was an impressive achievement – and a surprise. After all, Miculyčová, 16, has so far hardly made an international appearance.

Germany’s Kim Lea Müller also had reason to be happy. She reached 78.60 points, which was enough for the silver medal.

Disappointment at Lessmann

Things didn’t go so well for Lara Lessmann. In the qualification on Thursday she had achieved the third-best result of all drivers, and not only since then has she been considered a medal contender. In the final she only got a score of 75.30 points – fourth place.

She wasn’t the only favorite rider to falter in the finale. Olympic champion Charlotte Worthington of Great Britain was last after two falls. Switzerland’s Nikita Ducarroz also fell, but she still managed fifth place.
