Germany’s top climber Yannick Flohé hopes for the big coup at the European Championships and the home European Championships in Munich.

“Of course my goal is to win. I believe I can win,” said the 22-year-old from Essen before the start of the European Championships. The bronze medalist at the 2019 World Championships is looking forward to the support of the German fans at the climbing competitions from August 11th to 18th at Munich’s Königsplatz. “It’s going to be pretty cool. We don’t have such a big stage that often.”

First World Cup victory in June

Flohé celebrated his first World Cup victory in bouldering in June. In the lead, the classic lead climbing on a rope, he recently missed the podium several times. “Expectations have already risen. I no longer just want to climb,” said the all-rounder from the Aachen Alpine Club section. Without his top competitors from Japan, Flohé is considered a hot contender for precious metal.

First combined format “Boulder & Lead”

The German Alpine Club (DAV) starts with a total of 20 athletes in the European Championship. In addition to the individual disciplines of speed, bouldering and lead, the new combination format “Boulder & Lead” will be held in Munich, which is also part of the program at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Jumps on the wall, acrobatic movements or unusual body positions are now part of the requested repertoire on the handles.
