It became intensive for VfB Stuttgart for the Europa League start against Celta Vigo. VfB was clearly superior in the duel with the Galicians, but in the end had to tremble again.
Twelve years after the end of the round of 16, VfB Stuttgart celebrates a victory in the Europa League again. The Swabians won 2-1 against the Spanish club Celta Vigo. Badredine Bouanani (51st minute) earned the cup winner in the lead, Bilal El Khannouss (68th) increased to 2: 0. In the final phase, Borja Iglesias (86.) still scored the connection goal for the Spaniards.
VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß made only two changes compared to the 2-0 home win against St. Pauli in the line-up: Ramon Hendriks moved to the defense and newcomer Badredine Bouanani replaced Tiago Tomas in the storm. Again, Hoeneß also decided to initially leave captain Atakan Karazor on the bench.
VfB Stuttgart comes into driving after a second
After two failed discounts from VfB keeper Alexander Nübel, who had already led to the first shot of Celta Vigo in the early minutes of the game, the Stuttgart graduate gradually took control of the game. After nine minutes, the hosts came to their first good opportunity: Chema Andrés headed on the goal after a cross from the right from a short distance. The Spanish keeper let up and then the guests were lucky that Jamie Leweling’s margin flew over the box.
Intensive game remains goalless at halftime
The Swabians quickly digested the shocks at the beginning of the game, but in front of the goal they mostly lacked accuracy and the last punch. In the last ten minutes of the first half, the chances for VfB overturned. In one of them, Bilal El Khannouss put on a cross pass for Lorenz Assignon, which pulled off from around 20 meters towards the goal angle and forced Vigo keeper Radu to the brilliant parade. The Galicians in turn lurked on the counterattack. Si only came to two shots on goal at the break, but both dangerous.

Bouanani plugs Stuttgart to lead, El Khannouss increased
The hosts could not satisfy that the game had remained goalless. Stuttgart came out of the cabin with the same power and superiority, but what was tackled too complicated before the break, the team of Sebastian Hoeneß simply made it up after the break: the long kick -off from Nübel bounced once before Bouanani raised the leather from full run over the Galician goalkeeper. The Swabian leadership in the 51st minute was well deserved and overdue.
Celta Vigo turns up again in the final phase
The VfB kept the lightness: After his short -lived corner, El Khannouss came back to the ball with a double pass and swilved into the far corner from 15 meters. After 68 minutes it was 2-0 for the Swabians. However, the Spaniards knew a little negligence on the part of the hosts: Ilaix Moriba took the ball off the substitute Atakan Karazor and fit on Borja Iglesias, who scored the connection goal for Celta Vigo in the 87th minute. Then the Spaniards turned up to up to date. A few more times it became dangerous for the Stuttgart briefly before the final whistle sealed the still deserved victory of the Swabians.
