Danny Röhl actually wanted to turn things around at the struggling Glasgow Rangers. That clearly failed in his first game on the sidelines. After the game, the German was self-critical.

Danny Röhl’s debut as head coach of Glasgow Rangers was a clear failure. The Scottish record champions clearly lost 0-3 (0-1) to Norwegian runner-up Brann Bergen in the Europa League. For Röhl it was the first game in the coaching bench of the traditional club.

The goals for Brann were scored by Emil Kornvig (40th) and Jacob Sörensen (55th), each after an assist from Bard Finne, who was once active in Germany at 1. FC Köln and 1. FC Heidenheim. In the final phase, Noah Holm (79th) increased the score to 3-0. The Rangers suffered their third European Cup defeat in a row after defeats against KRC Genk (0:1) and Sturm Graz (1:2).

“We saw exactly where we stood,” said Röhl, who apologized to the Rangers fans for the defeat: “I have to find solutions as quickly as possible, that’s my job. I have to build the boys up now. I am completely convinced that we can turn things around.”

It was only on Monday that Röhl signed a contract with the Scots until 2028. When he introduced himself, he announced that he wanted to change and speed up the team’s style of play. However, little of this was seen in Bergen. The Rangers’ defense appeared unstable, goalkeeper Jack Butland made several saves to prevent an even bigger defeat. The club had previously only won one of the first eight games in the league. The once proud Rangers are currently only in sixth place in the Premiership.
