Brussels (dpa-AFX)-According to its own statements, the EU Commission has not yet made a decision on possible climate suggestions for company cars. A spokesman for the authority said that the industry had expressed the desire to specify CO2 standards for corporate fleets. A corresponding assessment assessment is currently being worked on. At the request of the German Press Agency, he emphasized: “No decisions were made at the political level.”
The “Bild am Sonntag” had previously reported that the EU Commission is preparing that rental car providers and large companies should only buy electric cars from 2030. In a paper published in March, the Commission had already announced that the legislative proposal for the emission reduction of company cars had to be presented by the end of the year, taking into account various technologies. On the DPA request, the Commission did not comment on details of a possible proposal.
Broad criticism
Criticism of an e-car obligation for corporate fleets may be debated comes from the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). MEP Markus Ferber (CSU) also demands that this do not happen. From the Federal Ministry of Transport it says: “We strictly reject this.” This attitude was also communicated.
If the EU Commission brings a corresponding proposal into the ordinary EU legislative procedure, this does not mean that the rules have already been decided. A majority of the European Parliament and the EU countries would also have to agree.
