The European Union has agreed on a billion -dollar list of possible counter -tariffs of up to 30 percent in the trade dispute with the USA.

If the negotiations fail, countermeasures on US exports to the EU worth more than 90 billion euros could quickly be imposed, as the German press agency learned from EU circles. Accordingly, the counter -tariffs should come into force on August 7 if there should be no negotiating solution.

According to the information, the countermeasures include an already decided list of taxes on US imports worth 21 billion euros. On the other hand, further imports worth around 72 billion euros are affected. A commission spokesman still emphasized on Wednesday that the main focus of the EU was to achieve an agreement with Washington.

Intensive negotiations

The EU and the United States are trying to prevent further escalation in the customs conflict between the two trading powers these days. Around two weeks ago, US President Donald Trump announced that he wanted to introduce new tariffs from August 1st and warned the EU about countermeasures.

Trump had given the prospect of the import of European products on Thursday night – if the European Union opened its market more to the United States. The Republican said at a AI event about the still ongoing negotiations: “If you agree to open the Union for American companies, we will raise a lower customs.” One is in serious negotiations.
